Frequently Asked Questions about Pest Control
What happens to pests in the winter?
While every pest is different, there essentially are three options: some will die off, some will be inactive during the winter, and some will invade your home looking for warmth & shelter.
Spiders: Some will undergo a process called cold-hardening, while others will go about happily living in the warmth of your home.
Ants: Some will prepare for winter, sealing off their colonies deep beneath the earth in warm soil, under rocks, or under the bark of trees. Others will be forced to look for shelter inside your home.
Wasps: Many will die off in the winter. The queens, however, will find shelter either in a discreet place inside homes, or by digging into the soil. They then will come back out once the weather warms up and will begin building their nests again.
Rodents: Mice, Rats, Voles, and Gophers can be active year-round in Utah. In fact, in the winter is when they can be most disruptive.
Treating in the winter is needed in order to keep your home pest-free. Water-activated products are also used during the wet season.
Are your products safe?
We know that safety is the very most important factor in everything we do. Jitterbug only uses products that can be applied safely in and around your home. There are many products that we have chosen not to use because of their risk to people and animals. We customize our service and products to each individual situation to make sure that you, your family, and your pets, are safe. A big part of pest control safety involves proper communication between the customer and the company. We follow the product label and inform you of information that might be important for you to know about a particular pest or product.
What about my pets?
We care for your pets and want them to be safe. Some pets, like birds and fish, can be more sensitive to certain products. Let us know what kind of pets you have and we will use the products that are appropriate to use in that situation. If your dog or cat will try to lick up or roll around in the wet products, then we recommend that you put them in a different location until the products dry. But for the most part, pets are welcome to be present during treatment. If there are any special instructions, we will let you know.
Do I have to leave my home when you are treating it?
One thing people like about our service, is that most of the products we use can be applied while you are in your home. We have worked hard to develop an effective system that uses the right products to treat your home safely, not disrupting your way of life in any way.
Do I have to be home when you're treating my home?
No, only if you want to.
Do you treat every home the same way?
No, we do not treat every home the same way!!!! Every person is different, and so are every person's pest needs. We customize our service with each home. We write down any special instructions and keep them in our system so we can provide the very best service available.
What is the benefit of recurring pest control treatments?
All pest treatments can help knock down the pest population on your property, however, using pro-grade products over multiple treatments ensures that there is a strengthened barrier protecting your home. The products we used have a residual effect to them that discourages the rebuilding of those pest populations. As seasons change, so do your pest needs. A regular treatment plan ensures that we keep a strong protective barrier around your home which makes it difficult for unwanted visitors to enter.
What does a standard Jitterbug treatment include?
- Perimeter barrier on the outside of your home
- Treatment of the eaves
- Wasp nest and web removal
- Spot treating around the yard as needed specifically for your property
- We do a thorough inspection at every service
- Inside treatment of your home is also included, but usually, treating the outside thoroughly keeps pests from coming into your home.
We customize every service to your specific needs, so treatment can vary upon location & season.
What pests do you take care of?
All general pests including spiders, ants, wasps, mice, voles, gophers, snails, earwigs, crickets, millipedes, etc. We also offer specialty services for roaches, bed bugs, box elder bugs, elm seed bugs, mosquitos, pantry pests, carpet beetles, mites, mayflies, etc.
What happens if I am still noticing pest activity after a treatment?
Pest control has many contributing factors. Every year the ecosystem influences different pest infestations. When you are on our program, you have unlimited follow-up services for all general pests. Some of the specialty pests may require additional applications, so we can customize a plan that will work best for each situation.
